About Me
Hey! My name is Weiyoung (pronounced "way-young", I sometimes go by the alias "wei2young").
I'm a software developer, currently based in Vancouver, Canada 🇨🇦. I have 2 years of internship experience in Frontend, Backend, and Mobile Development, and I hold a BSc in Computer Science from The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
I'm an avid learner with a growth mindset 🌱. I'm always learning, from technical skills such as AI prompting ✨, to self improvement skills such as time management 🕰️.
Born in Malaysia 🇲🇾, I grew up in a multilingual, multicultural environment, which shaped my open-minded and adaptive personality. As a result, I enjoy and am able to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
I only started coding in university, so for the majority of my life, I was learning different skills, from playing the piano 🎹, to writing Chinese prose 🀄️, to representing my school in Olympiad Math competitions ➗. I believe that my diverse background has helped me become a well-rounded individual.
Outside of programming, I spent a huge part of my life playing music 🎶. I'm a multi-instrumentalist, skilled in piano 🎹(classically trained but with a huge interest in jazz & rnb), guitar 🎸(mainly acoustic), saxophone 🎷, and trumpet 🎺. I also enjoy singing, songwriting, and beatboxing (that's right 👢&🐱 if you what what I mean!). I also dedicated 5 years of my university life to UBC A Cappella, a student-led a cappella club, where I became a Musical Director and eventually the Head Musical Director.
I'm a human with many interests! Besides music and programming, I enjoy reading 📖, bodybuilding 💪, hiking ⛰️, food 🍴, and philosophy 🧐. I also love playing sports, especially basketball 🏀, badminton 🏸, and swimming 🏊.
